Nursing: Food for Thought, Essay Example

Morrison & Furlong’s (2014) caption of food for thought exposes some current critical healthcare issues. They ranged from organizations unethical/insensitive practices as well as providers’ immoral attitudes towards clients/patients. Healthcare is a business. As such, currently making huge profits has superseded the delivery of quality care. The contention is that healthcare organizationshave the ability as policy innovators to facilitate redesigning polices, which create immense disparities in access to available health care across United States of America. It is ethical for healthcare organizations to be sensitive to environmental issues such as poverty, immigration and deliberate pollution within the ecosystem(Morrison & Furlong, 2014).

It was further emphasized that healthcare organizations’ at every level of their function whether individually, from the perspective of institutions or societal have a moral/ethical responsibility to the public it services as consumers of care.This must be demonstrated in access to available care as well asequitable distribution of qualitycare across the country. Unethical practices identified by experts are when healthcare organizations compete with each other in the market place for business or as a business (Cole, 2015).

The healthcare product ought to be sacred since it involves whether someone survives from an illness or die based on healthcare administration’s attitude towards the condition and its presentation by the client/ patient. It is awful when a cancer patient is told that his/her insurance can no longer cover their chemotherapy. The client/patient is then placed inhospice to die. Medicare healthcare organization does not cover long term care and Medicaid has a limit to which certain long term illnesses are covered. These victims of  a non- empathetic healthcare system paid taxes to the government all their lives. No adequate coverage no healthcare (Minerva, 2015).
