Nursing Informatics Adds Value as Healthcare Is Transforming, Research Paper Example

Pages: 1

Words: 309

Research Paper

Currently, there are many laws in the country that are designed to regulate information technology use in health care. Modern discussions therefore pertain to the use of these systems in health care settings and speculate how they will contribute to the improvement of patient care. (Pizzi, 2014) However, as we gain a more comprehensive understanding that pertains to the utility of these devices, it is likely that they will be used more frequently in the advanced practice setting. Furthermore, it is likely that the future trends of nursing informatics will tend to more complete use of these systems by health professionals. Not everyone knew how to use computers when they were first popularized in the 1990s, but basic computer use is a widespread skill today. In this manner, nursing informatics will become a skill that is expected of all certified nurses.

Some nursing students don’t encounter the need to become involved with information technology until they enter their field of practice. However, there will likely be a paradigm shift that allows for the focus of these systems during undergraduate education. Therefore, by the time that nursing students either enter practice or enter an advanced degree program, they will be aware of the information systems basics that are necessary for practice. While a dependence on these systems will not become likely, improving the information technology will also improve the quality of patient care that can be provided (Bulgacs, 2013). Therefore, it is likely that technological development will be a major component of the growing nursing informatics trend and that information systems will be more significantly capable in the future as the need for these technologies are identified.
