Essay

Evaluate the challenges that health care organizations may face when sharing data across systems.

Flow of data across systems is often inhibited due to lack of cohesiveness in the information technology system adapted by the particular organization. This is a major challenge faced by health care organizations. Along with this issue standardization polices may be inadequate. For example, codes used in the pharmacy many be inconsistent with those in the laboratory or clinical settings. Therefore, transfer of a crossdepartments data becomes difficult (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2014)

Using your professional experience and/or information gathered through research, provide at least two specific examples of interoperability challenges in healthcare.

Two widely discussed inoperability health care challenges relate first tostandardizing healthcare terminology along with application of appropriate education strategies for staff training. The secondembraces designing useable ICT interfaces tools. This enables the system toprovide the required technology features capable of correcting privacy irregularities and connecting legal networks to complete the inoperability process (Iroju1,  Soriyan,  Gambo &Olaleke, 2013).

Propose at least two strategies a health care organization might implement to address interoperability challenges.

Inoperability in information technology means aligning databases and fears within an information technology system to facilitate accurate data transfer. Essentially, this is the purpose of healthcare information technology. However so often transfer does not occur as expected or intended. Two ways of correcting this dysfunction is first by the organization ensuring that vendors use compatible software when implementing the system. Second is educating the receiving system person concerning the information they would be receiving (Lamar, 2005).

Describe an example of a HIT project implemented at your organization and analyze how that project was identified and moved forward.

Medical health record system isan information technology project that was implemented in my organization. The need was identified in accordance with the Affordable care Act recommendations. This project was enforced by the CEO who invited vendors to bid. After a suitable one was selected and implementation began training was conducted simultaneously. The project was completed and vendors provided support six months after implementation.

Evaluate the impact of key decision makers on moving the HIT project forward

Key decision makers would determine whether the implementation of a HIT system would be a success or failure. Many hospital administrators still are not conversant with information technology. Consequently, if they are at the head of a decision making process for implementation of a system within a given organization it may never occur. As such, key decision makers must be equipped with knowledge of this advancement and eager for its adaptation.
