Nursing: Stakeholders, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 357

Essay

As a nurse manger in maternity, at the end of this doctoral program my goal is to is develop a Postpartum screening tool and policy for the maternity unit to evaluate all patients for Post Partum Depression (PPD). This is to avoid unfavorable outcomes. Consequently, if an opportunity to share this DNP project with stakeholders becomes available, modifications of the present systemic review research method would be inevitable for the project’s  enhanced credibility.

Systemic reviews employing randomized controlled trials are the highest form of research evidence according to  the levels of evidence pyramid. Importantly, systemic reviews explore and present findings after critical evaluation of research studies pertaining to a specific clinical issue. A rigorous process of identifying and selecting relevant studies, which meet inclusion criteria, is undertaken. Many types of systemic reviews are conducted. Some do not contain controlled trials, others do not use previous research on the phenomenon being studied (Page, McKenzie & Kirkham, 2014).  However, in this case the best impression is required. As such, stakeholders must be convinced by the highest form of evidence. Therefore, the first adjustment would be to use a systemic review method that evaluates controlled trials on the post-partum depression disorder.

The advantage of selecting studies that have control research patterns is to improve the validity of results obtained from the research process. It allows opportunities for comparison minimizing subjectivity of data. A more recent concern pertains to the time frame trails were conducted. Therefore, the second modification would be ensuring that studies conducted within the past five years and have recently been updated, are selected for this systemic literature review. Currently, many donors are now questioning the validity issues contained in system reviews when application for funding is reviewed (Silva, Grande, Martimbianco & Riera, 2012).
