Obama Turns up the Heat for Healthcare Overhaul, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 289

Essay

Mr. Obama´s proposed healthcare reform bill has been under much public scrutiny since it was first proposed last year.  Despite dwindling public and democratic house support for the act,  Obama is making a frantic push to get the legislation passed before campaign season begins.

Republicans are insisting that the proposed act is an attempt for government take over of healthcare, and that the bill needs to be completely re-written before it can be passed.  Mr. Obama retorts that the insurance companies aren`t starting over and are in fact increasing premiums for Americans.

The article goes on to say that election season is coming up, and that if the act is not passed then Mr. Obama might have problems getting re-elected.  Overshadowing the president is the terrible state of the economy, and the over 8 million jobs that have been lost since he took office.

This article closes with the supposed benefits Americans would enjoy with the healthcare reform bill in place.  It does not, however, give the reader any information regarding why so many citizens and politicians are opposed to the reform act.

According to the People Press website, the debate is still hot in the news and in the people´s mind.  It also states that a latest pole showed that only 39% of the people feel the health reform act will get passed this year.

This article seems a little biased in that it only shows one side of the debate.  It would be beneficial to add more information as to why republicans and citizens oppose the bill.  The article does seem to point out that the urgency to have the bill pushed through may have something to do with politics, since it points out that campaign season is starting up again soon.
