Mindfulness
In the recent past, mediation and the concept of mindfulness has gained a footing within the business world as more people become aware of its benefits to productivity. It largely entails training one’s mind to be aware of the one’s own body and environment, i.e. the world around us, and in comprehending this, allowing for one to make appropriate decisions, responding as opposed to merely reacting to the prevailing environmental and internal conditions (Hall, 2013). Mindfulness and/or meditation allows any individual to achieve considerable mental and physical health, also enhancing resilience and the ability to handle stress and pressure that results from day-to-day activities. Mindfulness allows one to develop awareness and grow into a holistic individual, maximizing output, functionality and effectiveness in day-to-day activities.
Homeopathy
Homeopathy is founded on the concept of like cures like, where a given substance that disrupts normal functionality of the body causing symptoms can be applied to create a cure for similar symptoms showing in a patient (ECH.com, 2014). This is founded on the fact that every given substance, when taken in large doses, can cause disruptions in normal biological functions within the human body. This principle is founded on four concepts.
The law of similarity dictates that a given substance that can cause certain symptoms in a patient can be employed to treat the similar symptoms in a patient. This law requires that in order for a substance to treat a given symptom, it has to be able to cause exactly the same or similar symptoms when issued in a large dose or doses. This means that there has to be a match between the substance, the symptoms it causes and the symptoms of the sick patient in question. This similar is similar to the single remedy principle. This principle proposes that there can only be a single remedy for a given condition for a specific patient (NCCAM, 2009). This is because given the differences in numerous factors such as physiology and genetic predispositions, a patient would only effectively respond to s ingle remedy that has been specifically tailored for them, putting all these variables into consideration.
The principle of minimum dose postulates that a given concentration of a given substance that causes symptoms in a patient can be used to cure the symptoms in question and any similar complication within the patient. This essentially means that homeopathic medicines can be made based on the concentration of conventional medicines or can be extremely diluted to realize the curative properties of the given substance.
The principle of individualized remedy postulates that homeopathic medication has to be prescribed by considering all factors relevant to the patient’s physiology and mental states. The prescription has to be tailored to the characteristics of the complication or condition showing in the patient. Factors such as the patient’s temperament personality, genetic predisposition and physical build are considered so that the medication highly individualized to the patient (ECH.com, 2014). This aids in ensuring effectiveness in treatment, limiting the drawbacks of varied conditions that may produce varies results in different patients.
