An office worker had a record of frequent absence. He used all his vacation and sick leave days and frequently requested additional leave without pay. His supervisor and co-workers expressed great frustration because his absenteeism caused bottlenecks in paperwork, created low morale in the office, and required others to do his work in addition to their own. On the other hand, he felt he was entitled to take his earned time and additional time off without pay. Was he right?
The worker was never right. He did not fulfill his contractual obligations and duties as a worker and should be in breach of contract. He was never entitled to take his earned time and extra off-time devoid of payment for as he felt. This was wrong and should not be accepted in any organization or any business. Absenteeism and lateness for work without proper excuse are some of the most frequent corrective problem and expensive as well. He had caused great harm to the organization, his supervisor and co-workers as well. He was to be blamed for drawbacks in this organization (paperwork). The additional time off the duty is not encouraged either by law or the organization (I assume so). The worker must have disliked his duty, his supervisor, environment or organization’s policies and so can be considered as unfit for that particular work. Being absent must have created time for him to free himself from stress of duties causing frustrations in the workplace (supervisor and co-workers). He overworked the fellow employees but claimed for his pay at the end of the day! He is a black sheep in this organization and necessary corrections should be put in place to terminate the vice. It is the right of every worker/employee to attend to his duties and obligations as directed by the employer and other authorities (in this case supervisor). He had no right to claim for payment when the duties were not attended to and he showed no concern for the work causing bottlenecks in paperwork (his frequent absenteeism). With all the problems he has caused, I feel that he was never right think of being entitled to extra time off without pay. The problem might have been solved by inquiring why this was taking place and advices given. Suppose the employee was never interested, other opportunities are waiting. This is both advantageous to the employee and the organization.
Rhonda enjoys socializing with fellow employees at work, but their discussion usually consists of gossiping about other people, including several of her friends. At first Rhonda feels uncomfortable talking in this way about people she is close to, but then she decided it does no real hard and she feels no remorse for joining in.
Rhonda must have not been right. Her conscience about gossip was clear at first and she managed to regard it (gossip) as a vice. This is because she felt uncomfortable talking ill about other people, her friends included. This was before joining the group but her reason might have changed after. She was right at first and opted to remain so. Though she enjoys socializing but it was never right to do what she considered evil. By socializing, she ought to have talked about other productive businesses and advised her fellow employees. The disadvantages of concerning gossip would have been reveled to them. Her joining was supposed to be helpful to the employees and other people but not destructive as it was. This was wrong. Her joining the group caused more harm. She had just met the fellow employees at workplace and soon would leave them. It is clear that with gossip, all her friends’ secrets would be unsoiled. Her friends would never trust her afterwards (suppose they realized her actions and later behaviors). Her decision was never right. Rhonda did not consider the consequences of gossip. As well, she betrayed her friend by talking ill about them. No shred of tenderness left in her after she joined the bad group. She would have kept her distance as in the first case and maintained it. This would have eliminated her from the following consequences. Soon, her friends would realize and terminate their friendship. The hard times would follow when everyone would be hunting for her and fellow employees. She could have helped herself and fellow employees by advising them. Her act of socializing would be accomplished and friendship maintained.
