Essay

As the article begins, it highlights on how the Internet has evolved from being a tool to more of a weapon for education. People like Peter Ducker and Dr Wagner had seen this aspect of the internet and how it would impact education. The magnitude of its impact is compared to the impact the book had on education. Also, there was great uneasiness by Dr Wagner on how there was a great deal of reluctance to take education on a big scale.

Research and Education were the goals and motto of Ivey University. Ivey University had a selective set of programs that only aimed to produce quality over quantity. To do this, Ivey hired only the best and brightest minds to spearhead its research endeavours. This include a team of 12 individuals who had previously won the Nobel Prize in addition to other young faculty members who were brilliant researchers.

Its education goal was also achieved effectively. It had numerous graduates, up to 2,220 graduate students. To add on that, the Masters and PhD programs aimed to provide a constant flow of researchers for the institution.

Ivey’s School of Information Management had aimed to achieve global expansion owing to the increasing demand for quality education worldwide. The school developed partnerships across Europe and Asia. This was however met with many challenges. However, this had to be achieved as the school could not wait and see how the market expansion for education went on without being involved, they would lose relevance in education.

The introduction of onlineuniversities posed a huge threat to Ivey’s growth and advancements in global expansion. A notable threat was the Khanacademy which received donations and grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation among many other foundations. This cause Ivey to venture into online courses, a venture that would soon lose steam.

This led to Dr Wagner’s conclusion that the manner in which education is being digitized, the generation of new knowledge and the transfer of knowledge would make universities and campuses lose relevance. This is because using one single location where students would come to generate and learn new knowledge would be a thing of the past.
