Organization of Prisons, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 279

Essay

The formal organization of prison consists of the jail administration, such as the captain of the guard, warden, and director of vocational training. “Some parts of the formal organization of corrections that affect inmates include the classification process, the security levels of institutions, confinement arrangements within the prison, program options and assignments, and special-needs placements” (Law Library).

As soon as prisoners arrive to jail they are put into reception centers, where they spend approximately several weeks. Such practice helps jail stuff observe offenders, classify them and, thus, treat more effectively by means of choosing appropriate programs and applying special policies. Security levels of institutions are also effective in offender’s treatment. For instance, development of high tech equipment ensures now that prisoner will have no opportunity to escape. Therefore, offenders now have certain freedom on the territory of the prison. Those criminals, who have committed minor offences can interact with each other easily. Such offenders usually have minimum control over them. Program options and assignments are obligatory and are used to reeducate criminals. Job is often assigned in accordance to the type of committed crime. Finally, jail stuff members “investigate such details as the physical and psychological health of inmates, their educational and occupational backgrounds and abilities, community support and the quality of inmates’ family lives, and histories of drug abuse” (Law Library). Deceased prisoners are put to special hospitals; those who have low education are assigned to complete various educational courses.

Organization of prisons now is more loyal to offenders and makes their staying in prison more effective in terms of reeducation and rehabilitation.
