Organizational structure is a table, which an organization uses to achieve a social entity. In this regard, it is coordinated consciously and reasonably within the recognizable boundary. The social entity, thus, operate on a relatively constant basis to yield the common goals of the entity, or organization. According to Peak (2010), a consciously coordinated entity integrates the use of management to achieve this function. Organizational structure can apply to any social entity that comprises individuals who interrelate with one another and individuals from other organizations. An organizational structure also aims at serving the organization’s objectives by ensuring that the entity or organization achieves its desired goals. In this regard, a structure of an organization is a chart that enables the different aspects that constitute an entity or an organization to operate in harmony towards the attainment of its goals. For an organizational structure to be effective and fulfill its goals, it should have structured properly.
The effect of an organizational structure on law enforcement is that its effectiveness relies on the organizational structure. A good organizational structure results in an effective law enforcement system. An organizational structure employed in the law enforcement system covers the communicative aspects of law enforcement and the element of leadership. Organizational structure emphasizes on the recognition of hierarchy as it facilitates effective communication and a channel of authority. Organizational structure also acknowledges motivation and provides a scheme of motivating individuals. Motivation in this case implies psychosocial factors that aim to provide extrinsic and intrinsic satisfaction for the participants in law enforcement. Motivation aims at encouraging these individuals to engage in productive behaviors (Peak 2010). Recognition, promotion, and potential growth signify motivation, which is a function of an organizational structure.
