We are experiencing poor leadership and communication problems as a result of the recent merger with Esso Industries and in order to facilitate a better working relationship with management and the worker I propose some key changes which include:
- Examining the current communication processes and making appropriate changes including recommendations from employees through a feedback system.
- Having managers pay more attention to skill assessment of needed communication training for employees rather than focusing on skills for needed job performance.
- Having all management take up to date courses in Dale Carnegie “Learning to Effectively Manage Your Employees” through “One Minute Manager” courses
- Implementing organized cultural surveys that are organized and confidential to ensure all employees are served adequately and fairly with respect to their ethnic background according to the laws of the state and federal government. (“Effective Workplace Communication”)
- Promoting two way communications through a ‘win-win situation’ rather than a ‘win-lose situation’. “Win/Win communication is an effective form of communicating where everyone involved in the process works cooperatively toward a goal that enables two or more people or groups to achieve their desired outcomes.” (“Win-Win Communication”). This is kind of communication is achieved through setting aside any preconceived ideas that would influence negative misconceptions and promote a fair compromise leaving both parties feeling they both have negotiated the situation to a point where each leave the situation with a feeling of great accomplishment. This is one of the most effective tools a workplace environment or business can use to settle differences and promote unity from within.
We will be moving forward with training classes for employees and management within the next couple of weeks and implementing the Dale Carnegie tools into action very shortly to promote a better communication era into the workplace. (“Dale Carnegie Training Tools”)

Win-Win Communication Retrieved January 12, 2010 from, www.utenvironment.org/sustainabilitycourse/07/communication.doc
This form of Win/Win negotiation which is the newest form of negotiation available to businesses and management teams today. The purpose of this kind of negotiation is to end a dispute and have both parties leave the dispute feeling they both have accomplished the goal with a positive end. Often times in negotiation people play ‘hardball’ and it is very difficult to negotiate. Win/Win negotiation promotes honesty and fair practice techniques while negotiation and does not promote undermining of the other party which leads to distrust and animosity.
