Essay

Introduction

Just Web Internet Company has a philosophy particularly named the POLC Model; Plan, Organize, Lead and Control. They plan to be the innovative leader of internet service providing by doing just do across the Northern American continent. The new managers are in dire need of a new Policy Manual in order to facilitate a new business structure that will allow them to be better organized and allow the internet technicians to follow the manual with ease and efficiency. The manual will further clearly state the expectations that the Owner and CEO of the company expect from new management.

Section I

External Environment encompasses the environment the internet providing service will operate. The service will be run from a medium sized building adjacent to a tower that is capable of sending internet signals throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area as well as incorporating satellite capabilities to further install protocol dishes to furnish internet service throughout Northern America by the end of 2010.

The developers will sit in the hub of the building whilst the technicians will be housed in the cubby holes adjacent to the developers. The company plans to employ five developers and ten technicians to start up the project. There will be two floor managers and two on call managers overseeing the start up along with the owner and the CEO.

There will be one secretary for development, one secretary for technicians and one executive secretary management, CEO and owner operations that works daytime hours. There will be two 24 hour on call technicians for any issues that cannot be handled during daytime hours. All developers will have to take a one time period for 24 hours call once every two weeks.

Section II

Planning will encompass the purchasing of new equipment such as computers including hardware, software, ISP providers, external and internal devices, etc. Further budget planning will be incorporated during the planning phase.

An accounting team will not be on site however there will be a private CPA hired on staff to take care of budget costs and cutting payroll checks twice a month on the first and the fifteenth of every month. Salaries will be negotiated at hiring and annual raises will be given with a positive performance review.

“With the business described, next you must discuss your target market, identify competitors, describe product advertising, explain product pricing, and discuss delivery and payment mechanisms.” (Developing and Internet Business Plan 1994).The budget for the new internet service provider business is $200,000 for startup including rental of the building and start up material not including employee salaries. All salaries will be salaried, exempt. No commission will be paid. Any extra expenses will have to be budgeted and cleared through a chain of command which will include management, the CEO, owner and the accountant/CPA.

Section III

The new business will be organized by the same elements of any offline business plan. Any business takes time and money to make it work. “It is imperative you track your finances to make your business successful.” (Battle Tested Tactics to Organize your Internet Marketing Business 2010).

This may seem like a minor scheme of things but it is very important to keep your workspace clean and efficient to maximize your work effort during a work day. Create a special place to place your software, pencils, pens, extra hardware, etc,

Finally, keep a written record of your appointments and tasks. Even with the best of memoires everyone is prone to forget or mix up appointments. Don’t forget marketing is a very serious issue for your new business and organization is the key to effective marketing strategies.

Section IV

The key to effective leadership with the new internet servicing company is customer service and management training. In this new economy there are many competitive internet service providers (ISP’s) hence customers will opt for the company with excellent customer service reputations.

Going the extra mile can make a company rise to the top of the playing field. Providing service that is competitive, fast and reliable is another way to stay at the top of the ladder. (Research and Insights 2010). Carving your business to be innovative with change is another key to success.

Managers must be willing to lead and not follow or simply guide workers. Effective managers must not only have core competencies but be able to motivate groups of workers and make suggestions to improve a business when the stakes are high.

Section V

Controlling a new ISP business comes through internet monitoring and controlling. It can come through the monitoring of the sites, filtering the backlash of the exposure to viruses and making sure the ISP is online 24/7.

The Employee Management Team is in charge of keeping the ISP running smoothly with collaboration of the development team and technicians. Often test runs are used to control down time situations.

A business of this caliber can run effectively and efficiently as long as the POLC model is implemented and followed to a tee. The minute the business deviates from the plan it will experience issues.

Conclusion

“Competing solutions are less comprehensive and less agile when matched with your changing IT environment and evolving information systems.” (Employee Internet Monitoring and Control 2010). As told by the story above the planning and implementing stage is perhaps the most important one of making your ISP business work. Following through with your plan and staying on top of your budgets is the second and most other vital key towards the success of your new business.
