This paper posits to compare and contrast the culture of two cities that appear to be too close but in reality they are vastly different. Palmdale and Santa Clarita are cities that are just a few minutes apart yet one would think they were almost two different countries. Both cities are located in the county of Los Angeles in the California State of the United States. Palmdale is separated from Los Angeles by San Gabriel Mountains.

The cultures of Palmdale and Santa Clarita have many differences that make one to think they were almost two different countries. The living disparities can first be manifested in the cost of housing with Palmdale having far cheaper houses compared to Santa Clarita by a factor of 28 percent. In terms of population, Santa Clarita, being the largest city in the county of Los Angeles has an estimated 213, 000 people. The population os Palmdale is slightly smaller as compared to Santa Clarita being estimated at 153, 000.

Cultural diversity in Santa Clarity is less than Palmdale because the white population makes up 76 percent, the Hispanics comprises of 28 percent and the remaining portion being the Asian population. On the other hand, Palmdale has 49 percent of the entire population being white, 15 percent African Americans, 24 percent are non Hispanic White, 4 percent Asians, 2 percent Filipino and 1 percent Native Americans. There are other smaller cultures in Palmdale that include the Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Pacific Islanders, Indians, Latinos and other minor races. This combination gives Palmdale a significantly higher cultural diversity as compared to Santa Clarita although the two cities are geographically located in the same County and State in America.
