Paragraph on Childhood, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 353

Essay

My limited subject is my grandmother coping with my poor eating.

My audience is my family and friends.

The prewriting strategy I used was freewriting. I made myself to write non-stop everything I could remember on the subject. Since the memory I was describing was vivid, I did not have much problem writing.

My organizational structure is general to particular. I first explain the situation and then focus on special way that my grandmother found for mending it.

What I remember most vividly about childhood was the torment of eating I was to undergo daily. To say that I was a bad eater would be an underrating. I was horrible – slow and tending to pick reluctantly at my Mum’s best dishes to her utter frustration as a Mum and a cook which I only now came to understand. If I had no company for a meal, it meant that I would spend fruitless hours over my bowl of soup. A weak appetite and a strong inclination to daydreaming would lead me to the realms of fancy where I could happily exist without soup at all, but this was unacceptable from the viewpoints of my Mum and Granny. Desperate about my independent success, they would stay with me reminding me to eat and telling stories. This was what I enjoyed! My Granny invented a sequel of short stories about Piglet and Hedgehog. Whether she was inspired by soap operas which she just started to have to time for or it was some deeper instinct, I don’t know. The plot of every story was roughly the same. At the beginning Piglet went to see his friend Hedgehog (or vice versa), they had some adventures in the forest and finally got so hungry that paid a visit either to Piglet’s or to Hedgehog’s mother to have something to eat. And this something invariably turned out to be just what I was struggling to eat that day. Although my Granny’s tactics might have been successful, the strategy was surely not. A grown-up person, I still eat exceptionally slowly and can’t do without a patient and talkative companion to my meal.
