Passive-Aggressive Negotiation With the Chinese, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 295

Essay

Introduction

From an American-based perspective, passive-aggressive negotiations require an astute level of skill and tact in order to accomplish the desired objectives. In communicating and negotiating with individuals or governments with different perceptions of strength and power, personal and professional strength and knowledge must always be demonstrated throughout these processes to ensure confidence and support towards the appropriate outcomes. These contributions are necessary so that Americans will be effective throughout the negotiation process and will achieve the necessary results.

Analysis

The Chinese are often perceived as a challenging group of people to work with due to their perceived beliefs and superiority complexes. Therefore, Americans must represent themselves with the proper self-confidence and self-awareness in these situations. When negotiations reach a stalemate regardless of the subject matter, it is more important than ever for Americans to create an environment where discussion is welcomed but where beliefs are also strong and unwavering. These efforts must demonstrate the ability of American negotiators to share their position regarding a given circumstance in a manner that is consistent with American principles. Since the Chinese are historically difficult to deal with as a result of Communist-based beliefs and government rule, it is important for Americans representing a democracy to express their views and their expertise without hesitation.

Conclusion

Americans must always represent the country with consistent principles and beliefs that are consistent with Democratic rule. However, the difficulties of working with leaders within other nations with different interests and perceptions of power requires a continuous effort to demonstrate flexibility and strength during negotiations. Since the Chinese possess their own set of strong beliefs, the most feasible and realistic outcome from the American perspective must be achieved at all times, as this will ensure that the negotiations are worth the risk to achieve the desired rewards.
