Essay

Palliative care has become necessary for aged people or patients in critical condition. It helps reduce pain and the sufferings that come with such situations. Several types of research have been conducted regarding this theory; some try to emphasize the need for the view, while others use this theory in their study on palliative care. In this article, we will use Zaccara and Ngabonziza’s research to substantiate the significance of the peaceful end-of-life theory.

Purpose of Research Study 1

The research was conducted to determine the importance of palliative care to critically ill patients or older family members. It was based on the research conducted by WHO in Brazil, which showed that 70% of annual deaths happen in hospitals and Intensive Care Units. Therefore, the review underscored the need to apply Peaceful End of Life Theory PELT rules while managing more established grown-ups. (Zaccara, 2018).

Use of Peaceful End of Life Theory in Study 1

Using qualitative analysis, Zaccara noted that most of the older members of the society in Brazil were left to suffer and die without receiving any extra care since they were just old and not old. He applied PELT on a few elderly persons; both the family members and their elders reported to have benefited and that palliative care reduced age-related ailments. The use of PELT also equipped the relatives and nurses to effectively care for the elderly until they take their last breath. (Zaccara, 2018).

Operational Definition of Concept of Interest in Research Study 1

After observing how the older adults were neglected, Zaccara conducted a study on several patients in Brazilian hospitals; patients at the age of 80. The patients interviewed said that the care was greatly helping reduce suffering in their old age. They also said it helped ease the burden on the relatives who would otherwise be burdened by providing palliative care. In addition, the respondents said it was better to receive the care from a trained professional than from family members who lacked knowledge about how to go about it. PELT became instrumental in developing his research as it provided guidelines on areas of focus(Zaccara, 2018).

Purpose of Research Study 2

Ngabonziza utilized subjective examination strategies to direct this exploration as a manual for attendants who gave gentle finish-of-life care. The hypothesis is established on the investigation of Chinn and Kramer’s (2015) hypothesis. It was created due to toa absence of core values for medical attendants giving serene finish-of-life care, particularly in the emergency unit. It was directed at the University Hospital in Norway to realize that they had some awareness of the consideration and increment their insight into it (Ngabonziza, 2021).

Use of Concept in Research Study 2

By applying the Peaceful end-of-life theory, he developed his concept to aid in creating awareness on how nurses should handle patients whose lives are nearly ending. Since most of these patients are in pain or in the intensive care unit, Ngabonziza advises using nonpharmacological and pharmacological interventions when in pain. This is in line with PELT on reducing pain and suffering to the patients. As caregivers, nurses are expected to empathize with the suffering patients and, at the same time, apply socio-ethics and respect for human dignity in their practice (Ngabonziza, 2021).

Operational Definition of Concept of Interest in Research Study 2

Through observing how nurses at the University hospital attended to the patients, Ngabonziza developed an interest in how to provide the best care to these patients. This was after he noticed a lack of professionalism and knowledge among the nurses in the ICU department. Using PELT theory, he provided guidelines like being empathetic to the patient and their kin and ensuring that the patient’s dignity is respected. By applying PELT, he found out that if the patients received proper care, their lives would be prolonged, and also it would help alleviate pain in their kin (Ngabonziza, 2021).

Conclusion

The application of PELT in these researches has helped improve care for terminally ill patients and elderly patients in several hospitals globally. The caregivers and recipients give credit to the theory for it enable them to know what and when to do it, depending on the patient’s condition; and for the patients, it has helped reduce pain and suffering and give them the last days of their lives.
