Imagine if everyone in the world was good enough to give way to every single thing that others would want to impose, not insisting on what they actually want. According to socialists, both then and now, cultivating the virtue of sacrifice among people would best affect the whole being of the society and how well it is able to respond to the different challenges that the modern living presents to them. Based on this belief, the perception of people towards the sacrifice that every individual takes into account [especially those that are closely related to giving up something really important for themselves in support of what others want to happen] has specifically created a distinct mark on how expectations are measured accordingly, especially in relation to how the world changes and how human values change along with it.
Sacrifice is such an elusive virtue that has been accounted to have been lost from the regular culture of the modern society. It is so elusive that somehow, socialists think that it is with its existence and extensive application that the emergence of good social development could occur further. In accordance with the principle of the double effect theory, it could be realized that the real essence of sacrifice could be observed to take on a double thread; often suggesting that as one acts with goodness towards another, it is most likely that he will get the same aspect of goodness from others.
The same thing is true when it comes to mandating how the theory on ethical situationalism comes into account especially in pointing out how extensive situations affect both the actuations and behavior of the people depending on what they want to implicate in relation to what good actions result to and how much it does create a distinct impact on how people respond to each other accordingly. The principles of overridingness follow the same idea; the chain reaction that one’s sacrifice is supposed to create with everyone else touched by the said action is expected to develop a better essence of how modern living could be accounted for and how its real value could be recognized accordingly based on how reaction between members of the society create the overall culture and the distinct value for equal response is measured accordingly.
Question is, how valid is such reasoning in possibly pointing out on how people from all around the globe would react to distinct operations of development in behavior especially among those who put much effort on how they want to affect the goodness among others. Making sure that the response would be positive, individuals become highly concerned on how they behave around others hoping that if they do the right thing, if they sacrifice enough, they would get positive response from others as well. This is however a distinctively different matter of truth compared to what is really happening in the society today. What makes up good response is that of the emergence of equal understanding among people involved in the matter or the situation being dealt with.
There are instances when good actions do not get enough good response. It could be understood that the difference of attitudes among human individuals become the core reason for such differentiation of reactions. People have become even more concerned about themselves rather than that of the others; this is the sad truth that makes sincere sacrifices almost impossible to occur. Without the definite sense of what is understood as good and effective response, it could be realized that understanding the real meaning of sincere sacrifice cannot be understood accordingly. Hence, the imagination over the distinction of good sacrifice as the base of improved society cannot be accounted for unless the people themselves would respond to the goodness in a positive manner as desired.
