Essay

The relationship between public health and nursing developed over time. Outline the continuing relationship between the practice of public health and that of nursing.

  • Consideration for the promotion of general public health

Nursing and public health are dedicated to making sure that the general population remains healthy and specifically operates under relatively committed healthcare systems that are sure to protect the welfare of the public in remaining properly nourished and knowledgeable of what good health is about.

  • Dedication to providing healthcare to less fortunate members of the society
  • Bringing healthcare options to people who have less financial capacities to support their own needs
  • Bringing health provisions to people living in rural areas
  • Creation of programs to support children’s health

Improving vaccination schedules and brining healthcare centers where service for children and their mothers is most needed.

  • Formulating health promotion campaigns to improve social health development

Improvement of social information dedicated to develop public knowledge on healthful attitude

Define public health and its focus. Discuss the vision, mission, and core functions of public health.

Public health is noted as the general condition of the health status of a particular community. The core functions of public health include giving attention to what is generally needed by the public and how such needs could be given attention to. In an aim of lowering costs dedicated to healthcare expenses for the public, the creation of health insurances and health improvement programs are promoted.  Relatively, it is through this process that the existence of large scale community-wide epidemics is prevented. Giving attention to the basic needs of the people and how they are relatively responded to creates the foundation of good and efficient health programs dedicated towards the protection of the general public.

Compare and contrast definitions for public health nursing: population-focused practice versus practice focused on the individual.

In nursing, population-focused practice involves a distinct consideration on the health status of a particular group and how the needs of the general public are responded to. For instance, in rural areas, vaccinations and medications are needed; nurses are then expected to take note of those needs and provide the people with what they require for developing healthier lifestyles. In a way, concerning this matter, the attention is dedicated towards seeing the overall needs of a particular community based on the generalization of their situation.

On the other hand, individual-focused practice takes a more personal approach on the part of the nurses performing their duty towards a particular patient. Most often than not, this practice is considered when a nurse is assigned to particular patients in hospitals where they are expected to perform specific medical and nursing duties. Usually, these duties differ from protocol operations that are undergone by each nurse when dealing with other patients. In this case, nurses are supposed to know the specific condition of the patient and be able to respond according to the situation that the patient is undergoing. Attention to details is important especially when it comes to medication and recording of healthful developments of the patient.
