Performance Management in Public Health, Research Paper Example

A large number of businesses have adopted performance management strategies. These techniques involve the development of consistently assessable, valid, and improvable goals that must be regularly met to ensure the highest possible quality of operations. Utilizing a similar approach to public health management could prove to be extremely valuable for achieving and maintaining a superbly efficient level of functioning. both throughout and between various institutions. Research in this area is scarce, but has revealed a number of insights into the potential importance of performance management strategies in public health management. The interest in this topic is logical, considering the obvious benefits of improving performance.

A 2010 study by Silva, Paulino, and Ferreira demonstrates the usefulness of performance management techniques in the primary settings of public healthcare centers. Utilizing previously developed designs, the authors employed a case study method that evaluated the effect of managing performance variables like skill, motivation, and integrative direction. The findings suggest that health care institutions can be improved with performance management, but the current state of these settings does not reflect the efficient use of such techniques.

It appears that further measures need to be taken to promote the implementation of performance management systems in public health settings. Further research will help to identify the most appropriate measures to consider. Focus on psychographic measures may prove to be another avenue of success for performance management strategy designs.
