Perpetuation of Black Identity From 1940-Present, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 351

Essay

The topic of my research study is the historical advancements, published from about 1940 to 2015, devoted to The Development and Perpetuation of Black Identity from 1940-Present.

My research plan is based on completing my preliminary historiographical essay and

bibliography by September 5,2015, which will give me three days to spare before the September 8, 2015 due date.  This means I only have three weeks to find and evaluate secondary sources from each of four time periods and one week in which to write my preliminary essay.

To that end, I will spend the first week locating and analyzing secondary sources from the years 1940 to 1960; the second week for the period 1960 to 1980; and the third week researching the period 1980 to the present. While I will skim through a multitude of sources and log many of them in my research journal, my ultimate goal is to analyze at least four solid secondary sources written by historians in each era, preferably two books and two journal articles, for comparison in my historiographical essay. Of course, I will take full advantage of the UNLV library and will only include books published by a university press and peer-reviewed articles found in scholarly journals.

As I analyze these ten or so secondary sources, I am sure some sort of pattern or picture will develop that will reveal how historical interpretations and methodologies have changed over time and I will explain these findings in my historiographical essay. The week of September 5, 2015 will be devoted to writing the preliminary essay and the weekend of September 8, 2015 will be spent reviewing and fine-tuning the document.

On September 8, 2015 I will turn in the preliminary draft of my historiographical essay. After completing my preliminary draft, I realized that additional sources may be relevant for the credibility of the paper. So, while I am waiting for input from Prof. Wammack, I plan to continue researching for more sources and studying my existing sources to complete my study. I will also refine my essay for clarity, particularly with regard to the goal and perspective of each historian’s work.
