Person Admired, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 253

Essay

The person I admire is the late Pope John Paul II. I selected this person not because of religion but because of what I have seen him do over the years. I admire Pope John Paul because of the inspiration that I have seen him evoke upon millions of people. I remember seeing on the television how wherever he went, exceedingly large crowds followed. However, the most important thing that made Pope John Paul II so admirable for me is how he truly showed respect to other religions and brought his own religion closer to them. The subject of religion is for me a highly debated matter. So many groups of people, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, and so on have so many different opinions, and each leaders from each one always seem afraid that if they give a quarter to others, it would damage their reputation and cost them followers. Yet one unforgettable moment of admiration that I have for the late pope is when the World Day of Prayer was televised so many years ago. This was a brainchild of the pope, who believed that all religions can be brought together through prayer. The pope singled out the one thing that all religions had in common. One way or another, each religion had a way of reaching out to the higher power. It was unbelievable, seeing people from so many different religions come together to pray. It truly amazed me how one man can bring together such diverse people in the world.
