Personal Experience, Essay Example

Essay

In most cases, people find it difficult to change their beliefs and attitudes, and it takes an intervention of another person to do so. Several reasons are attributed to the change of attitudes and they include holding an advanced view of the world, seeking consistency, and gaining social acceptance and approval among others. From a personal experience, most people find it difficult to take their time and relax. Most people have demands and stress from school and places of work, to some extent that, they lack time to eat. In my case, I took an intervention of a friend to accept some techniques of relaxation. Initially, I believed that it is only through exercises that one can manage to minimize stress levels.

Through a friend, I came to understand that without exercise, one could easily acquire relaxation. Given time, meditation has helped to reduce levels of depression and anxiety. My attitude towards this approach was negative because I was not giving it time. However, I came to learn that repeated sessions of mediation is a good therapy of depression. During these sessions, my mood would improve and I experience positive biological and behavioral changes. While this approach might appear foreign to many people, it is effective.

The change of attitude and belief takes time, especially in a situation where the individual in question is being introduced to something new. Giving oneself a chance to get a direct experience helps in formation of a positive opinion on various things. The first experience of something provides one with first hand details one would have only got from secondary source. The change of attitude is helpful in clearing any form of inappropriate judgment. A positive and negative attitude or belief towards something can be shifted through experience. Following my change of attitude towards meditation, I realized that lack of information could be misleading.
