Essay

The story about myself relates to me being of Chinese decent undergoing undergraduate studies in Boston. I nowlive in Los Angeles California. My childhood could be considered lavish because I was raised in anaffluent familyunit that was highly respected in the community. Despite these privileged beginnings, however, my parents never forgot to teach me that there was poverty in the world and many other people did not have the resources we enjoyed. As such, every summer we visited the country regions where poverty was obvious and my grandparents grew up.

It used to be an enthralling experience because it allowed me to understand that, perhaps, this would have developed into my dark shadow personality if this phenomenon of life was not adequately addressedduring childhood.  Certainly, at that time there was no remorse in realizing that my grandparents actually grew up in poverty, but finding out later as I grew older being exposed to all this wealth in which I grew up, the idea became intimidating.  This would not have emerged as my golden shadow, but part of my history and personality that I would deliberately or secretly try to hide

This poverty phase of my childhood has become an unconsciousness aspect of my personality that my conscious mind does not readily identify with(Johnson, 128). As such, I am blessed to have achieve this status in early life. To a great extent I owe all my achievements to parents and grandparents. My father it could be said lived in his golden shadow because he taught me that intellectual endeavors must lead to the ultimate therefore, life must be pursued from that perspective.

Currently, my core values have emerged into yearning for intellectual prudence; maintaining the wealth in my family and most importantly seeking out ways in which as an individual I can contribute towards irradiating poverty from the world. Intellectuals have argued that poverty cannot be reduced. There are scriptures (holy writings) supporting the progression of poverty to say that the poor will always be there (Sachs 72). However, from what I have witnessed during my childhood in communities across China mu core value is to eradicate poverty from China and the world because this will ultimately surface as my dark shadow.

The skills and talent I bring to this venture encompass my training.. I was fully exposed to an international level of addressing poverty among different nations in the world. These experinces through placement and work study have offered practice opportunities. Above all a skillsthat works effectively for me is empathy. Fotr me without the quality no one can help the nay disadbavtage groups of people in the world.

The area in which I think I will gain the greatest personal and professional growth is finding employment in an organization that promotes public management and policy. Presently, my golden desire is to work with United Nations where equitable funding polices for poorer nations in the world could be executed. In the capacity of government, politics and world renowned economics I believe that the possibility exists. As such, I bring my authentic self to the task, facing my dark hidden personalities, establishing integrity and glowing in my golden shadow.

A way in which my values are an expression of my life purpose is the empathy towards people in poverty that is expressed through me. Another feature is my goal of becoming equipped with more skills in eradicating poverty first in my community and next the world. In my opinion being born into wealth was not an accident, but merely a compass leading me to where I was called to work.
