Personal Persuasive Strategies, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 314

Essay

Most people apply specific persuasive strategies and techniques in daily communication, whether they recognize that or not. Convincing one’s husband to wear red tie instead of green, or persuading a friend to watch Harry Potter movie instead of Avatar are some of the examples of using these strategies. Nevertheless, some individuals are more successful in their professional and personal communication than others are. Human resource managers and communication sphere professionals explain that the secret of their success lies in the ability to formulate their goals clearly and motivate their audiences to act to their good.

In my opinion these specialists are right. My experience proves that being clear about your intentions, and earnest with one’s audience, are the best ways to persuade them to accept your viewpoint. It does not matter, whether you try to convince your boss to give you a pay rise, or urge a group of friends to volunteer. In any case, formulating your goals or desires clearly increases your chances for getting what you want.

Another important element in being persuasive is recognizing the needs and priorities of your audience. I am interested in most people the surround me. I am usually aware of their problems, things that make them smile, and make them angry, and I build my persuasive speech in accordance with these little things. The key to persuading people to do this, or that thing, or change their viewpoint, is explaining them their benefits from these actions.

I am convinced that these strategies are applicable both in formal and informal environment. There is no doubt that there are some limitations for using them in formal speech, but the overall strategy should be built on being clear, and understanding the needs and priorities of one’s audience. People are much more likely to agree with things they understand, and support the spokesman, who is understanding and attentive to their problems and needs.
