Personalized Medicine, Essay Example

Essay

People magazine wrote about Angelina Jolie’s new decision to make a surgery because she had an 84% chance of getting cancer.

Because of the fact that there are many women faced with cancer issues, I thought that researching about it would have a greater impact on the current society. Relatively, in a personal scope, I feel that the occurrence of cancer on my aunt pushed me to become more interested in the topic and what it could likely offer to me and my family as a relief to the current condition of one of our family members.

At first, I looked at cancer overall. I feel that the impact that this particular ailment has on the society is rather affective of the lifestyle that people lead. Then later on, I decided to focus on cancer issues facing women while conveniently focusing on the case of Angelina Jolie and how her decision on medication affects the overall condition of healthcare concerns that other women might basically be involved in. Along with this thought, here are some questions I want to respond to in the research:

What particular measures of healthcare concerns should actually push a woman to decide to get surgery like miss Jolie did?

Are there other measures of handling the situation aside from surgery?

What specific stages of cancer should a person be in to actually be alarmed of treating it immediately with surgery?

The question to which the research is to be focused upon would be:

What measures of prevention and resolutions should women be concerned about especially when it comes to incurring cancer? Should these treatments be radical, or are there other avenues that some women, who might not like surgery, could take into consideration especially when they are still within the early stages of cancer?

What makes this issue interesting for me is that it has both a general and personal impact on my part. Being that my aunt is involved in the same situation as Angeline Jolie is, I think, it makes it more controversial that every woman became concerned of the situation and how it affects them personally. While researching on the matter, I feel that I would be able to find better solutions that could help my aunt with her current condition and concerns.
