How important is it for researchers to be honest when they publish their results?
When the researchers publish their results they should be honest and declare the source of the information/materials. Therefore, they have to include citation of the sources they used in the research to honor the efforts of the original owner of the findings they are using in their research to support the research findings and arguments. Being honest is much more encouraging for the others whose work is being used as they are honored for the credibility of the assignment.
Is it OK for a researcher to borrow material from another person without giving them credit (plagiarize)?
It is not right for a researcher to obtain materials of the assignment they would be working on from another person and not give them the desired credit. By doing so the researcher will be termed as having plagiarized the research work which is a breach of intellectual property ethics and an academic offence. The author will also not be credible on their research as they would have lied that they own all the research findings and analysis under review. Giving of credit when a researcher uses someone else materials is essential as it promotes the original work which were done by the other researcher and provides cohesiveness of the upcoming and old researchers in promotion of their research which they worked on (Banks, Et al 2007).
Why does it matter whether or not they are honest?
By being honest and recognition of authors who have participated in the delivery of the research work by the researcher makes the research credible. When the authors are honest and provide the citation appropriately they eventually own the research they have worked on. They are also respected by those who will use the research work which they have worked on and be used in other forms of research by other researchers as it would be referred as being truthful and reflects the real situation of the research being done.
