The Soldier of Rupert Brooke and Dulce ET Decorum Est of Wilfred Owen have reference to poems addressing issues of war. The implication of war in poetry is a premise that is ancient as love together with nature since poems of the early times have a central focus on battles as well as struggles. The fashion of the poems is a metered rhyme for the purpose of being passed from generation to the other. Poems related to war have their focus on death together with destruction with soldiers not always being the victims. This is the reason why Brooke together with Owen tends to applies their experiences of soldiers to color the effects of war with the production of similar originality together with same target although their point of view regarding war are different.
To start with, there are traits related to resemblance in the two poems due to their originality together with the people concerned. The life of the two authors was based in England where there existed soldiers responsible for their own country together with the witnesses in as far as the atrocities of the First World War were concerned which being a great war had significant influence on the meaning attached to the two poems (Jon, 245-54). Both of the poems have been directed to the same population, English men as well as women who are young. The illustration behind this is the application of the soldier in form of propaganda by the government for the purpose of creating excitement to the young people to be patriotic and later inviting them to become soldiers. Irrespective of this view point, war has been represented as being bad due to the suffering in a painful manner as well as death afflicting the people. There is a difference in the situation of a marriage or the celebration of the eve of the New Year during the period that people are involved in joys a swell as drinks. Instead, during war the characteristic feature are pain, suffering and death (Rupert & George, 134-65). Owen makes use of literacy devices in addition to others for the purpose of the achievement of single ends. There is an experience of a terrible death of a man in the service office. There are also some images comprising hundred men who tr5avel through mud with the sound of gas shells with masks on them as well as a horrible death of a man who has drowned in gas.
For the case with Rupert, his talent has been applied for the purpose of influencing people in signing up with respect to war witnessing atrocities related to war with the suggestion of the thoughts of the humans being superior race being nonsensical. The use of the poem has been a representation of his pride and an encouragement to the young people to go to war and be killed. The author excites people to go to war with the implication that a death in war is noble. On the other side, Owen has made use of potent poetic devices for the purpose of depicting the brutality and the horrifying experience associated with the war (Edmund, 231-65). There is the application of smile for the purpose of arousing the responder’s sympathy in the process of witnessing the ugly nature of the soldier’s death. There is an implication of bitterness as well as pain being the negative effects associated with war as has been highlighted by Owen. He applies a potent language in depressing young people against taking part in war even at the time of serving ones country.
Conclusion
There are distinct similarities as well as differences evident in the two poems. The origin is same, the writers English soldiers of old age, the reason behind the writing of the two poems are multitude effects of the first world war. There is also an application of literally device for the purpose of propaganda for the purpose of approaching all the readers as well as the representation of the position of the author I with respect to the war. There is a presentation of diverse characteristics as a result of their view with regard to the war. Brooke’s poem is associated with patriotism as well as encouragement to the people to go to war for the sake of their county However, there is a painting of horrible truth in the poem of Dulce et Decorum Est.
