The importance of filing a police incident report is that it helps in delivering official departmental record that provides source of information relevant to making future apprehensions or arrests. These reports form the basis for the analysis of offender modus operandi, crime analysis, proactive staffing assignments, personnel evaluations etc. It is worth noting that writing a good investigative report mandates an individual to have significant knowledge regarding the legal concepts that are inherent to the profession.
