Policy Leadership Application, Essay Example

Essay

Bolman and Deal state “Political Frame appears to be primary determinant of success in certain jobs.” (278). Hence with that mindful set what does that mean for private sector law firms? Let’s take a look at leadership capabilities and significance of the role the paralegal, secretaries and attorneys’ play in an effective large scale law firm.  In order to effectively lead an organization of powerful attorneys all employees must work in collaboration toward a common goal and that is toward the vision statement of the company or firm.  Bolman and Deal emphasize that political framework is strategy of techniques to follow rather than a resolution of conflicts (2009).

Further organization are coalitions of power and people working together to achieve efficiency and effective order. There must be one person with an established order of authority of which other employees’ report to directly. Further there should be a written and defined plan of both structural and political comprehension that is clearly easy to follow. There should be no ambiguity especially in law firms which may result in conflicts. It is important to establish a reward system for those who meet and exceed established goals. Personal power is accomplished internally by setting reasonable goals and meeting those goals. The company’s power leader should take into consideration that there may be some cultural conflicts that can be easily sorted out with slight changes in the plan to adapt to the vision statements needs. The goal of management is to manage in effective and constructive political ways.

“Whether a company has a formal or informal human resources department, the HR department can “serve as a catalyst” to the management team.” (Bolman and Deal’s Four Framework Approach). A great manager will use symbols to keep the attention and focus on the vision of the law firm.  This strategy will promote little conflict in the workplace because there is emphasis on internal gratification and self-reliance and commitment to cultural values.

Bolman and Deal’s plans are used to motivate employees and focus on changes in an institution that is in dire need of a change. “Educators agree that structural and symbolic change is most emphasized through Bolman and Deal’s plans.” (Dangerously Irrelevant).  It is most important to note that management should incorporate a change of structure, political, human resource and symbolic if they wish to make a considerable change within the company. Changing one approach will only conceptualize the problem within an organization theoretically whereas making a total change will encompass the need to restructure the whole facility through the four methods of change for a successful implementation that will last. This sort of change can me both physically and mentally challenging but the long run results will be astonishing if the whole team works together collaboratively to make the efforts succeed. “Political change will always be inevitable in the changing world of business ‘if a company is the stay competitive in the big leagues’.” (Wagner 2009).
