Political Science Transfer Statement, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 482

Essay

I am an international student from Paraguay and have recently completed an associate degree in Business Administration from Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC). An undergraduate degree in Political Science has been my dream since the day my dear friend Dani died at the hands of a drunk driver in Asuncion, Paraguay. I took courses in Business Administration at NVCC to develop my soft skills because success in politics often requires the same skills that are needed in the business world such as communication, persuasion, and negotiation.

My friend Dani was not only the victim of an irresponsible citizen who got behind the wheels despite being under the influence of alcohol but also the state’s law enforcement agencies and the political establishment who have failed to create and enforce laws to protect citizens because doing so doesn’t advance their personal interests in any manner. They have failed to understand the sanctity of their roles which they usually see as a pathway to power and riches. The behavior of law enforcement agencies such as Police in the aftermath of Dani’s death and the continuous failure of politicians to protect the future of young generation eventually convinced me that complaining can only get us so far and we young generation will have to take matters in our own hands. This is why I decided to get education in the U.S. so that I could observe firsthand the political and public security infrastructure in the country and what lessons could be imported to Paraguay.

I have always been a believed in the power of education because education expands our thinking horizon and improves our decision-making skills. It also teaches us how the world works and what actions could be taken to tackle the most serious challenges facing our generations. But the quality of education, like everything else, also varies which is why I have done a comprehensive research on the undergraduate programs in Political Science and have come to the conclusions that (UNIVERSITY NAME) fits my academic and career goals better than any other university.

(UNIVERSITY NAME) has a history of producing graduates who have enjoyed remarkable career in the political arena. During the campus visit, I was also impressed by the diversity of students on campus because meeting people from other cultures and countries help you gain new perspectives and look at problems from different angles. I also met students from Paraguay many of whom have similar aspirations as me, i.e. to return to Paraguay and improve the country with the help of lessons and education obtained in the U.S.

I am excited to attend (UNIVERSITY NAME) to pursue my undergraduate in Political Science and look forward to being a productive member of the university’s community. My unique background and life experiences will enable me to contribute significantly to class discussions. Investing in my education at (UNIVERSITY NAME) may be the single best decision I will ever make.
