Polygamy Opinion, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 215

Essay

Polygamy is the state of marriage to many spouses. It goes both ways in this case, where a man has multiple wives or wherein a woman has multiple simultaneous husbands. Polygamy is considered illegal in some countries. A term normally referred to as bigamy. Most western countries consider bigamy a crime for which an individual can serve time in prison.

In the Islam religion, polygyny is permissible only upon the situation that the man gives and provides for all his spouses equally. The Islam governed by Sharia law permits a man to possess four wives at most.  In particular Islamic nations, practicing polygamy requires the written consent of the first wife.

Numerous worldwide human rights administrations, as well as most of the women’s rights societies belonging to various nations, have campaigned for the eradication of polygamy. The laws ought to be reviewed to help protect women married to polygamous men from getting trapped in the legal limbo of polygamy.

Polygamous families significantly experience more complications in their household functioning, the overall life satisfaction and marital relationships. Therefore, I would not advocate for this practice, since it abuses and degrades the dignity of women.
