Portland Black Lipstick Company, Essay Example

Words: 243

Essay

The decision tree and the table above represent Portland Black Lipstick Company decision-making process. The company has experienced problems in the classification of the appropriate target group for its products. Although most of its products exhibitions have targeted the entire population, the total sales have declined in the last two years. As a result, the decision tree has been designed to determine the right gender and age for the products. From the decision diagram, the populations are female between 15 and 35 years. Reasonably, the lipstick business has no demand in the male population. With such deductions in place, all exhibitions will be directed to areas with middle-aged women to mark maximum sale of the products.

Queuing Theory

Queuing Theory can be applied successfully in the analysis of buying and selling checkouts in supermarkets. Most buyers in supermarkets experience problems of delay when the number of customers’ turnout is high. The number and length of queues increases making customers wait for longer when all servers are busy. To solve this problem, queuing theory deploys the simulation model to come up with a test sample that will lead to estimated solutions in multiple queuing models. Simulation model considers various variables such as arrival time, checkout-operating unit, service time, and departure time. Mathematical models will also be applied to provide the optimum variables that would lead to sales efficiency. Additionally, the two models will give an informed view of steady customers’ behavior during low and high seasons.
