Essay

In every family there as a  ah,ah moment and for many newly married couples. It is the announcement of a pregnancy, especially, if the couples waited for marriage vows to consummate their relationship. Besides, in many cultures children are a blessing and sign of inheritance. The thought of getting pregnant is always awesome for couples anxious to see what their marriage produces. How wonderful it is to know that there would be an addition to the family of two?

The experience of preparing for a first child is also wonderful. The anticipation is inexplicable.  Imagine their excitement this pregnancy news brings. After then all attention is turned towards the fetus growing inside of the new mother.. Before the sex is known there is a long session of guessing until the couple finds out. Then the meticulous preparation is huge. It starts with shopping maternity garments for theh expecting mother and subsequently the bady based on the revealed sex.

At this time it would seem that every member of the extended family would want to subscribe to the joy of the new arrival. Grandparents first make huge bungles of clothing as gifts. In some cultures a shower is kept to welcome to infant. This happens about a month before birth.  During the celebration family invite usually close friends and there is feasting anticipation of a safe delivery. The interesting feature of all this heightened energy is that grandparents, aunties,  and uncles are all imagining how the infant would look. Everyone wants him/her to resemble them.

One father was so elated at the birth of his daughter  and who she really resembled that he penned these words after the arrival of his first girl:

  • Who would have thought, to my surprise,
  • The day I looked in my daughter’s eyes,
  • That I would find my sunshine, my star, my pearl,
  • All the thoughts in my head, of this little girl ( Mullen, 1).
  • The birth of a healthy baby is the expectation and every member of the extended family celebrates this joy. Excitement always fills the air when a new life is brought into the world and in family for the first time
