Essay

Slide 1: This research paper seeks to focus on children with special needs. That is, it asjs to what extent does the education system in the U.S. implement inclusion in classrooms for the benefit of these children.

Slide 2: Below is an overview of the research. The overall thesis statement is presented, followed by the specific research questions. Following this, this presentation expresses its argument position, and the evidences found as they relate to this position. The main points are summarized, followed by a clarification of how sources were gathered.

Slide 3: The thesis statement of this research is that Mainstreaming, which is the idea of including children with special needs in regular education classroom settings with typical students is not seen in most curriculums in the United States despite the awareness for inclusion as well as the call for equality.

Slide 4: This research seeks to explore the following research questions. 1.) What are the benefits of inclusion to special-education students? 2.) What are the benefits of inclusion to the schools concerned? 3.) What are the current policies implemented in support of inclusion? and 4.) How can these benefits best be achieved?

Slide 5: The argument position of this research stands on the premise that by fostering and nurturing an inclusive mindset in educational centers leads to a balanced and egalitarian society. However, a review of literature has uncovered that despite demonstrated benefits of and legislative mandates for inclusive education, many schools are still lack the provisions to implement inclusive and teachers in general are still not sufficiently trained for handling inclusive classrooms. Thus, further research into the subject of inclusion will promote awareness on how best it can be practiced and integrated into the curriculum.

Slide 6: Evidences found across various reputable sources in support of the position of this study are extensive. Keogh (2007) substantiated the benefits that legislative acts concerning inclusion have brought to the educational system. Ryndak et al (1996) show the struggles of families with special children and argues for the appropriate inclusion of such children in mainstream education. Scott et al. (1998) argues on how mainstreaming should be implemented in all schools, both for the sake of the children and their parents. Booth and Ainscow (2010) expose the international level of awareness in educational inclusion and question America’s slow pace to adapt it.

Slide 7: In conclusion, the main points of this research are as follows. Inclusion is a critical issue in elementary education. However, there is a gap in literature concerning how to best implement and/or improve current policies on inclusion. Thus, a research on best practices in the implementation of such policies can benefit the educational system greatly.

Slide 8: The sources of this research were meticulously identified through a rigorous review of available literature. Using engines such as Questia, peer-reviewed articles relevant to the study were found and used.
