Prevalence of Swine Flu in the United States, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 439

Essay

Introduction

Swine Flu, also known from its medical label as H1N1, has become a highly feared disease that has caused deaths of thousands of people within the United States and globally. It is therefore important for individuals to go into details on how to control it and create awareness to everyone globally. (Petrosillo 163)

 Statement of the problem

Swine Flu, a disease that first emerged in 1918, killing forty to fifty million people world wide has been declared by the World Health Organization (W.H.O) to have affected many countries globally. Over one-hundred and sixty eight independent countries have reported at least one confirmed case of Swine Flu. So far, 162,380 cases have been reported and associated deaths of over one-thousand one hundred and fifty four. (Petrosillo 165).

 Objectives of the study

Due to the extreme increase of the prevalence of strain on H1N1 virus, many researchers have worked hard to develop the history of the viral strain, a list of characteristics of the disease and possible vaccinations or treatment methods to reduce the impacts that the disease have upon the global community. Below are my reasons for carrying out this study;

  • To find out how the disease evolved. For example, H1N1 infected pigs, H3N2 infected human beings, Avian flu infected birds originally, Eurasian Swine mutated from the original classic H1N1 and today, H1N1 has evolved and mutated to combine all four of the influenza virus strain. (Dogra 168).
  • To explain its mode of transmission, for example; it can be transmitted from human to human through coughing or sneezing (Tandon 162) especially to people within six feet (Mir et al. 163).
  • To identify its impact in the United States and globally. For example in terms of death rates and number of people affected across the globe.(Petrosillo 165).
  •  To identify the various signs and symptoms of the flu, amongst them including; fever, lack of energy, lack of appetite, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, cough and sore throat. (Dogra 168).

 Conclusion

Written above is my proposal for the project paper I want to write about. I am therefore only looking forward to your approval, hence, following your approval, I will be happy to continue to carry out my research and develop drafts of my final report and make it to be as effective as possible.
