Principles of Management, Essay Example

Essay

The most effective strategic and tactical plans must be utilized to make positive changes to a business through management of change (MOC). Understanding the company’s values, the human side of the employees as well as the culture and vision statement of the company must be investigated and analyzed to effectively implement an effectively successful plan. People innately fear any type of change in their life hence these issues must be dealt with by delicate nature on an individual basis. “Data collection, analysis and implementation must be effectively orchestrated to keep the risks at a minimum.” (Booz, Allen and Hamilton, 2004).  With change comes risk and the human factor itself poses a risk unless dealt with strategically. Change starts from the bottom up and people must make a distinct decision to implement change through thoughts, plans and action. Normally design teams and managers work on the MOC plan prior to implementation. It is up to the managers and workers to effectively facilitate the change through motivational techniques, organizing and maintenance. Keeping abreast of the reality of the situation is key to keeping positive motivation while the change is occurring. It is normal for people to question the need for change thus they will look at leadership to explain to what degree change is needed. Having a clear vision statement will help to eliminate any reluctant feelings workers may possess and help to keep all in reality and focused whilst the change is taking place. Demonstrating the need for change and the avenue to make the change happen will ease the minds of workers as well as provide a positive mental and physical road map to make the change happen.

Specific techniques involved in MOC are confronting the issues, keeping abreast with reality of the present situation and explaining and implementing the plan with full force by overcoming objections. Plans are accomplished through the ability of others within the organization to understand them and put them into action. “When implementing a change management plan it is important that all of your staff understand why the change is needed. The explanation must be detailed enough to encourage a personal investment on the part of your staff for the success of the change.”  Hence a full communication plan is necessary to ensure the success of the change. These techniques are consistent with the chosen principles because they motivate workers, enlighten them on the plan and are factually based by ways to properly implement a MOC within any organization. Results have shown if a leader follows these basic principles they will be successful with MOC.
