The source of change in the Queen Elizabeth’s soaps project was the wildcat strike that took place at the Steohan Marcus Parfumissary, which was the supplier for Pritchard’s Soaps. This strike caused the supplier to miss the delivery deadline, which set the project several weeks behind. Due to the missed deadline, Kyle Lee, Pritchard’s lab manager cannot accommodate the test schedule required. This is the major setback. This will cause the soap to not be prepared for the Christmas season.

Sam has a few alternatives that can be reviewed. The first is to try to compromise with Kyle about the test schedule. They could determine whether another project can be placed on hold until Sam’s project is completed. Since Kyle has already rearranged his schedule to begin with, this is not likely going to be a solution.

The next alternative is to simply tell Senior management that the deadline will not be met. This alternative could cost Sam the termination of her job. This is likely not a great alternative.

Another option is to push the product out without the required testing. Without the required testing, this product may not be safe for use. Knowing that this could be harmful to the consumer base makes this option void. That is of course assuming that the company has a high standard of ethics.

The last alternative is to propose a new time schedule to senior management. This time schedule would ensure that the perfumes would be tested in the toxicology lab as soon as Kyle can make it a priority. This would be done before the first of the year. Once this is completed, an advertising campaign could be utilized to target the Valentine’s Day market. Valentine’s Day is also a gift giving event, mainly for women to receive gifts, so perfume would be a great Valentine’s Day gift. This is the best option for Sam’s dilemma.
