Pro Death Penalty, Essay Example

The state should be able to explain morality. When a person, through an exercise of free will, decides to take the vilest actions possible by communities, the person must pay the ultimate sacrifice by losing their life at the hands of the state. Some might object to capital punishment on religious grounds, but identical, sacred texts are different people who give varied conclusions as to their meaning (Owens, Carlson, & Elshtain, 2004). Citizens in 36 states currently favor the death penalty as recorded in their state constitutions. A chief reason for this is that such a law deters other heinous crimes, such as murder. People “support the death penalty because they understand that the one indisputable fact about capital punishment is that it removes the most brutal killers among us from society…forever” (King, 2008, p. 599). Evil doers need to face the consequences of their deeds, and they need to pay an similar price for the harms that they impose on others. When the state executes a person, the government is taking an indignant stance toward certain crimes.

These days, when a person receives a conviction for a capital offense, sour nation can rest  assured that the case has received extra scrutiny from our system of courts and been the recipient  of excellent legal counsel. The slick maneuvers and tactics of defense attorneys do not mislead jurors, who choose death penalty verdicts routinely. The margin of error in such convictions is possible, but minute. Killing an innocent, convicted felon is possible, but not likely. Prosecuting death penalty cases is expensive, yet the cost of incarcerating a person for life, without parole, is, on an average, even more costly.  Non-Whites commit more crimes, so the notion that the death penalty designates non-Whites above other races is ridiculous. Most people, when they think about it, conclude that having physicians administer lethal injections is a more humane way of carrying out death sentences than having prison wardens and their staffs perform them.

More people back the death penalty than ever before. Most people form their views about on emotion rather than on information (Ellsworth & Gross, 1994). Politicians come into office when they promise to get tough on crime. Citizens need to allow them do their jobs by making and enforcing laws that rid our country of its most insidious people who violate, murder, and terrorize. No person has come forward to suggest a better alternative for the punishment of such people.
