Hobbes’ idea of Phantasm

The contradicting idea over the capacity of the mind to perceive due to the application on how the five sense of the body function to provide stimulus projections of the external world is challenged by Hobbes’ philosophy on Phantasm. To this matter he points out that the mind perceives what it wants to perceive whether or not the five sense function. This is the reason why even disabled individuals are able to perceive matters that at some point may not be familiar to them at any cost. Relatively though, a question of scientific evidence could be carried into consideration in identifying particular problems regarding this philosophy. One, it could be analyzed that there is a huge difference between the brain and the mind. While the brain is the organ used to think, the mind is often considered to be the functional identity of the mind. The mind is the one able to perceive through analytical distinction on matters that are processed in the brain. The reason why some people can perceive matters that they may not be familiar with or may not even have any knowledge of is because of the capacity of the mind to relate current situations and knowledge to that of the memories it has gained in the past and specifically create a new form of idea that defines the current thinking of an individual.

Descartes’ idea of Dualism

The main problem about the philosophy of dualism is that of the question on how the body responds to what the mind directs. In science, it is specifically indicated that the body operates with the direction of the mind. On the other end, this philosophy insists that the function of the mind and body are two very distinct elements of human existence. Considerably, the clauses of the said philosophy indicate that the human body could exist and function without the mind’s directions and vice versa. This has been specifically proven through the occurrence of the out-of-body experience that is specifically proven by particular patients who note the said experience to be true. Nevertheless, science confirms that such occurrence is implicated through the distinct function of the brain as it intends to survive particular medical situations in the body. This then indicates that still, the function of the brain is dependent on the other functional parts of the physical body

Parallelism

Parallelism follows the indicative presentations of thinking under the principles of dualism. Imposing that God created humans to have two separate elements to help them function, namely that of the mind and body. With two separate functioning elements, a human being becomes whole; although it also implies that the brain could operate separately as desired by each part. This has been repeatedly argued in debates by experts of science and psychology imposing that people function as a unified being, not as a divided individual. Most likely, the way a brain functions determines how the body would react and the way the body parts function would determine what the mind would perceive thus continuing the cycle of relative impact between human functions.
