Nowadays, living in the world of constant change and advancement, the idea of a person combining a number of activities, done previously apart, has grown into a worldwide tendency. This is especially true for those falling into over-20-under-30 age category, who try to accomplish as many tasks as possible with the purpose of not only ensuring sufficient educational grounds, but also starting the foundations for the prospective growth of the personal fortune. As for me, I am not an exception from this rule. Being a Penn Foster student, I manage to combine work and family obligations with full-time studies. One may think that I am taking on too much, which can be true on the one hand; however, on the other hand, when you keep all your activities organized and under control, there is nothing to worry about. How to achieve this result is what we are going to look at in this essay.
The first step in balancing studies, work and family is the clear identification and specification of timeframes for all activities. Taking the college schedule as the main time identifier, you should try to plan all the other activities around it. It may be easily done in regards to family needs, but turn out challenging with managing the working hours. So, the number one priority at this point is to organize college and working hours so that they do not interfere or get mixed up. Moreover, it is also useful to take in consideration the amount and complexity of the potential homework in order to avoid staying up all night finishing a project or coming up with a well-weighted essay when the only thoughts whining up in your head are those of the good night sleep. When studies and work schedules are taken care of, it is the right time to consider family obligations. In regard to such kind of activities it is important to remember that family business cannot be always put into time limits. You may plan to stay for a couple of hours when a surprise visit from your aunt holds you up for the rest of the day. When considering time for the family needs, always keep in mind that family is an essential part of your life and there probably nothing more precious than all that family memories that will accompany you all through the life. Leave a few extra hours for the family gatherings or any other family activities. Still, if there will be no need for them, you can always call a couple of friends and share those moments with them as well.
After the time frames are estimated and established, the next important step is to keep up with them. The key to success here is the realization of the real value of your time. Everyone is able of establishing timetables, but what is vital is the necessary abilities and skills to follow them. As far as I can judge, the value of the time is that it cannot be overruled or turned around. If you missed something, there is no way to go back and redo it. In the end, it all sums up as a life experience which leaves it up to the individual to decide how to process it: either to learn and value the time or just let that experience stay as unpleasant memories. Keeping up with your time frames basically incorporates two steps: the first is always being on time and the second is not wasting it. At first sight, these two may seem easy to accomplish, but in reality not every individual is capable of it. Being on time is a habit that people should be taught in their childhood along with reading and writing. Being punctual not only shows your level of commitment and maturity, but speaks up of your respect and acknowledgement of the others. College and work give wonderful practice for good time management. Both institutions provide certain probations for being late so you are able to learn right at the spot how valuable time is. The idea of not wasting your time is more challenging than being punctual as not every one is able to acknowledge that what he/she is doing is in reality the waste of time. In my opinion, the mostly widespread factor of time wasting is laziness. All the time you think to yourself about a few extra hours of sleep instead of getting up to do the chores or fulfill homework, about staying at the dorm to watch TV or play videogames instead of taking a ride home – is a waste of time. Time goes by and if you miss too much of it, the regret you’ll end up with will be intolerable. When balancing college studies, work and family, there is no place for being late or wasting that precious time as all of the three activities require maximum attention and loyalty.
Summing up, I find it import to point out that balancing important life activities is a habit that does not build up in a week-time period. It may take up to one or two years to come up with a right sense of balance that will accompany you for the rest of your life. It may not be easy or fun to go through that establishment period but the result you will achieve in the end will definitely outweigh all the odds. Balancing college studies, work and family needs is a perplexing and challenging goal, which requires determination, full commitment and inner strength to be accomplished. Just don’t give up or stop halfway. Always remind yourself of the benefits you’ll achieve in the end and the desire to succeed and get on top will inevitably lend you a hand in being the best in the game.
