Process Improvement, Essay Example

Essay

According to the Business Dictionary an information process is “series of steps involved in the transformation of raw data into actionable information” (Business Dictionary). There are six main phases that are involved into the information process: definition, location, selection, organization, presentation, and evaluation. All of these steps are included in the information process of Wal-Mart operations and have to be carefully considered by the Operations Manager. Firstly, a manager has to define his/her informational needs and identify the main key words and ideas. Secondly, one has to locate information and realize what has to be found and by what means. Selecting the information includes verifying credible sources and picking relevant information. By means of organizing information a manager is calculating the time needed to process the data. Lastly, presenting and evaluating information gives an opportunity to check whether the information was valuable and the purpose fulfilled.

The physical process puts the information process to work. Each step of the information process corresponds to a specific physical process to ensure the beneficial outcome of the set plan or objective. For an Operations Manager in Wal-Mart such combination of process can be used when hiring new staff, purchasing new products or products with different prices and qualities, ordering new machinery for storages, and other operations. After the last step of the information process is completed, a manager starts to apply the physical process to achieve the set targets and goals.
