Professional Development Goals for occupational therapists

Becoming an occupational therapy assistant is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling occupations there is. It would be my responsibility to seek quality of service through frequent supervision of occupational therapy service delivery. I will seek to offer above regulatory and practice setting supervision at all times to ensure not just the minimum required standards are achieved but that the client experience is worthwhile. I intend to achieve this via modeling, direct contact employing social media as a useful tool that has not fully been exploited I the industry.

I will seek to demonstrate service competence whenever the occupational therapist delegates tasks to me. I will also show initiative in that I would like it done before I’m told. While doing evaluations I will be providing written and verbal reports to the occupational therapist, while seeking to attain greater responsibility and independence within the regulatory guidelines. The information I provide will be as accurate as possible in order the occupational therapist can assimilate the information into the evaluation/assessment making process.

I will try to put client needs first when evaluating results when providing input in the intervention plan of the occupational therapist. The client’s occupational therapy goals will be foremost in my mind when making modifications to therapeutic activities and intervention. While making sure they are consistent with client goals, demonstrated competency levels, and the requirements of the practice setting.

Helping people is a goal in itself occupational therapy assistant allows me to me the double Good Samaritan. I will help the occupational therapist and the client. I will be the bridge and the feedback mechanism. Hoping both gets the best possible service and all achieve their goals.
