Essay

Introduction

A graduate study in nursing is an aspiration which sometimes seems overwhelming. However, my goal is to begin and accomplish my goals successfully graduating at a very high level. Identifying a program and designing a professional development plan aligning my  personal and professional goals is critical to my high achievement desire. This assignment gives me the opportunity to reflect and describe what this program of study really means to me. It helps me to review my educational and professional background while exploring this new territoryon which I have embarked because nursing as a science is ever evolving and if professionals are to keep abreast with changes it must be through educational development (PDF pages 3 & 4).

Academic/professional Background

Presently, I function as Medical Surgical nurse in a small health care institution which services a unique patient population.Apart from being a registered nurse I hold a specialization certificate in oncology. Currently my experience in nursing dates back to when I first fell in look with the profession looking and advertisements and admiring nurses in their scrubs. I am also involved in teaching for the Licensed Practical Nurses’ program (LPN) on a part time basis. This is at a private health care teaching institution. My passion is teaching and I know that the Masters of Science Degree will enable me to perform at a higher level in this teaching role. Certainly, it would increase my knowledge of nursing in the coursesI have to teach.

Goals

My goals encompass becoming a proficient nursing teacher/professor. There are many gaps in nursing science and practice through lack of enough evidence based research. As such another of my goals is to engage in research that would add to the body of knowledge within the science.
