Incident Summary

Malicious Code: A worm utilizes open file shares to rapidly infect numerous hundred workstations within an institute or organization. – An organization gets a warning from an antivirus merchant that a new worm is dispersing rapidly via email all through the Internet. The worm takes benefit of a vulnerability that is present in several organizations’ hosts. Based on earlier antivirus incidents, the firm expects that the new worm will contaminate some of its hosts within the subsequent three hours.

The organization should have set up security measure like real time scanning software and or on-demand scanning software installed in all systems. Strong firewall, and restriction or access rights given to only authorized personnel (Costello, 2002).

From high-end software resolutions to network appliances, the figure of email security options for small industries is growing. Email security is a two-way predicament; data that leave an association via email can be as injurious as what comes in. So small enterprises owners must take countermeasures to alleviate the effects of spam and malicious email data, and they require monitoring the data that goes out through the email doorway (SmallBusinessComputing Staff, 2011). Medium or large businesses or departments have security options of using WAN OR LAN enables security measures, which are numerous, and applicable to various departments or businesses (George, 2005).
