How important is it for a project manager to have expert judgment in the subject matter of the project?
A project manager is specifically the primary controlling personnel in the process of defining the path that should be taken by the entire team in completing a certain set of tasks that needs to be given attention to. Being the leader and the controlling personnel, the project manager is expected to oversee the situations that the team members have to deal with especially in further defining the progress proceedings of the project. Completing each task on the part of each member of the team would only become successful with the help of a good leader; and most often than not, a good leader is defined by his capabilities to reassess his position as a decision maker and a judge upon situations that concern the differential results connecting the project’s expected results with the efforts included in its practical operations.
There are instances when conflicts, risks and other issues arise during the process of the project’s completion. Nonetheless, a good leader does not only manifest a good control of matters that occur in his project and his team members, but is also defined as a good manager of events that should take place in line with the completion of particular project. Remaining strongly dependent on how one specific project should be handled, it is evident that a good leader is able to become as flexible as needed especially during instances when certain unforeseen events occur making the project completion a source of satisfaction not only for the leader but for his team members as well. With good decision making, alternative routes to certain decisions are immediately formulated hence making it easier for the leader to redirect the attention of the team members even at certain times of indefinite situations that post particular problems to the project’s completion.
Must an IT project manager be an expert in the technology that is being implemented?
Being an IT project manager, one is required to oversee the different IT operations of the organized project being implemented. This means then that it is through the expertise of one individual in the aspect of IT that makes him a qualified personnel to handle the technicalities of the said branch of the project. Hence, it is indeed a requirement for one to become an expert technology once he is appointed as an IT project manager. Being an expert in technology simply imposes on the capability of one to redefine his ways of operating with the team in line with the kind of operation that would allow him to completely gain control over the project through his technical skills. Most often than not, in the process of completing a plan of project management that entails the involvement of team members in engaging with technical operations with modern technologies, leaders or the appointed managers of the said aspects of development are encouraged to note the operations and the possible risks and problems that they may encounter during the process. This way, IT project managers are able to create alternative technical operations to make sure that if there would be any issues along the way the completion of the project need not be completely hindered. True, only experts in technology would be able to specifically mandate or at least foresee specific pitfalls of a particular project as each turn is being completed; and foreseeing the direction to which the operation of the project is treading to is an important aspect of inspiring a highly technologically controlled system that would assure of the project’s development. Most often than not, an IT project manager is then expected to take control of the situation especially when the said issues involve technical matters hence requiring his expertise on the said field.
Support this position, whether you agree or disagree in your conclusion.
Project management is a crucial stage of development in most companies undergoing change and/or adjustments. Hence, this means that individuals set as leaders in the process are expected to embrace a definite course of expertise especially in terms of becoming well-versed on the systems involved in the project that is supposed to be completed. Leaders are specifically expected to mandate the dependable course by which the team members operate alongside each other. Along with this comes the indicative approach by which the team is put together by the skills of the project leader to manage not only the people but also the tasks that they are supposed to complete within a certain span of time.
During the process of completing a particular project, it is very important that a leader is able to foresee what is to happen next. This is especially true when it comes to the idea of making a great impact on how specific issues are expected to arise and how each problem could likely affect the development of the project depending on the progress of the tasks being completed alongside the purpose of the said operations. Most often than not, the incapability of the project managers to deal with specific problems that the team encounters could be accounted on one’s lack of expertise in the subject matter that the project is grounded upon. From this point, it is then safe to say that the level of operation from which one particular project is completed is largely based on how much a leader is able to make a definite twist on how matters could be further improved especially in times when specific grounds of project difficulties occur. Most likely, it is during these times that the crucial role of a project manager as a leader becomes properly recognized.
