Controlling scope is a matter of Project Managers working purposely with the aim of delivering projects on the defined budjet and in the stipulated time. Great attention paid towards managing scope.  The Project Manager should optimize profit generated by a project, if maximizing profit calls for scope to change then the change employed. However, the costs, risks, and duration associated with scope change considered while and compared to the expected output.  Change is inevitable since during a project many legitimate reasons would arise and call for change. A proposal presented to the project’s decision-making body for any scope change likely to generate improved benefits. What is the primary tool in WBS and the output of the WBS processes?

The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is the foundation of the project, as the project managers and project management professionals say.  To create a WBS, time energy, and a team of experienced people required. The primary tool in creating a WBS is the Project Scope Statement. The other tools or inputs required include the Project Scope Management Plan, Organizational Process Assets, and the Approved Change Requests – (PMBOK Guide). These tools are essential in giving all necessary information required by the team to create a WBS. Additional tools as the Work Breakdown Structure Templates and the Decomposition – (PMBOK Guide) could also give essential information. A team of expertise develops a project title, and then come up with deliverables for the project. The project scope statement and management plan sated to capture 100% of all the deliverables for the project. Next is decomposition that includes breaking down deliverables into smaller chunks of work that is achievable and realistic.  From this, basic WBS templates created. The principal output created is the Work Breakdown Structure., WBS Dictionary, Scope Baseline, Project Scope Statement (updates), Project Scope Management Plan (updates), and the Requested Changes – (PMBOK Guide).

Scope baseline and its implications on project

Scope baseline forms part of the project management plan, which is the reference point throughout the project life. It comprises of the WBS itself, the project scope document and the WBS dictionary. The scope baseline is extremely influential on the project; it forms the centre documentary of the project. The project scope in it gives the product scope descriptions, acceptance criteria, and the project deliverables.  It contains the WBS, which describes the activities required in the project. The WBS defines each deliverable and describes how they decompose into work packages. The work packages define the scope of the project, acceptance criteria, activities of the project and any exclusion in the scope document. Changes on the baseline document and the project scope may occur as the project progresses. The scope baseline takes care of this and monitors the project progress while approving or disapproving changes. The control and effectiveness of the scope management remains under control. The scope baseline is of paramount importance in a business as it determines how effective a project would run.
