Promoting Fairness, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 315

Essay

It is considered that Criminal Justice Agencies will need to take the following promotional steps to advance the concept of ‘equal justice and fairness’ in the 21st Century:-

Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms – With the concept of globalization and an increasingly integrated world community, it is important the we gain equality of human rights and basic freedoms across all nations.  People need to be empowered to have basic democratic rights and equity between nations.  It is anticipated that the United Nations and International Justice Agencies will play a pivotal role in this area.  Countries will no longer stand for the tyrannical rule of brutal dictators as evidenced by such countries as Egypt, Amman, Libya and Syria. (Inter-Parliamentry Union, 1995)

Racial Equality for Immigrants –  Globalization will create much more movement in terms of people seeking work, opportunities and a new life in different countries. There needs to be much more equality for immigrants integrating into different communities. In the USA the case of Yick Wo vs. Hopkins the court ruled that a local authority had violated the constitution of the USA and the protection provided under the 14th Amendment. The pledge of law is an equal law applicable to all people regardless of race or colour. (Weber, L. 2009).

Equal Opportunities – More progress needs to be made appropriate to equal opportunities in both the education sector and employment sector.  This with particular focus on integration of the minority communities like the Latinos and African Americans.  Although progress has been made in this area there is still a considerable amount of additional work that needs to be accomplished in order to create a fair and equitable system. Particular attention needs to be focused to the areas of diversity and English Language training.
