Essay

Presentation Problem

Gerald is a 39 year old, high school graduate and a heterosexual Christian male referred by Dr. Ejaz Farooquie of the Mental Health Institution. The reason for referral is severe anxiety. Gerald is currently employed as a chef (cook) at a suburban restaurant. Based on Gerald’s medical history and assessment, a psychological evaluation would be conducted to achieve the results.

Behavioral Observation

He states that he has been experiencing dizziness, strong headaches and reactions to bright light and severe anxiety by working under pressure at work. Gerald described himself as “the fastest chef” of the restaurant, with high quality cuisines and efficiency. Gerald had been a victim of domestic violence in his childhood, and he had been reporting mild headaches to his family doctor since he was fourteen years old; due to the destructive fights and increasing tensions between his parents, which had a debilitating impact at his mental, physical, social and psychological health. Gerald complained that he was unable to live a normal life, like other kids.

Gerald has been several times late in appointments as well as seems to be frustrated when asked about correcting his lateness. He was well-dressed but a little depressed and skeptical with the interviewer.

Test Results and Discussion

Upon investigation, Gerald told that he had never been exposed to illegal drugs; however the interviewer assured that an entire history of past drug and alcohol is obtained with his records for appropriate assessment.

Documentation from the neurologist, Ejaz Farooquie suggests that these symptoms cannot be fully explained by a medical condition, as the situation is very complex, compounded by many extremely negative and unpleasant moments and events of Gerald’s life.

Based on Gerald’s medical history, behavioral observation and psychological assessments, his Licensed Professional Counselor’s test results indicate that:

  1. He has visual, means he has a fake personality he tries to portray to the outside world
  2. His depression scale is 41
  3. Bad diet leading to frustration levels rising up to 35
  4. His overload is 30, his burnout level is 30
  5. Alcohol/drug scale is 38
  6. Anxiety level is 35
  7. His self concept is 30 with a Type A personality
  8. Deprivation level is 29
  9. Social readjustment is rated at 248
  10. Stress management is 30

Hence, the diagnoses were concluded via the SDS assessment booklet result and recorded for future references. The report concludes that Gerald possess a Type A personality in the anxiety disorder field. Patients with these personality disorders tend to deal with a situation by making a choice of their own, rather than ignoring the situation as explained by M. Farouk Radwan (2011). The sole reason for becoming a Type A personality is that people usually, tend to deal with their unbearable situations, in order to overcome and survive the consequences.

Summary and Recommendations

As mentioned in the clinical assessment and test results, the Type A personality people are fighters of the negative situations they get into, they are described as multi-tasking people. They learn how to manage their stress levels, however, continuous uncertainties and anxieties can lead to massive anxiety and depressive disorders, as proper psychotherapy and medication is required to eliminate and cope with these destructive emotions as they can cause severe damage to a person’s health if continually exposed to the matter.
