Psychology: A Study of Mental Life, Research Paper Example

Research Paper

The client’s psychological profile primarily reveals that he is a deeply introverted person with high-performanceIQ but moderate emotional, verbal IQ. Ben’s educational history shows us that he was barely a social person, he only socialized with people with same interests as him. In addition, it also appears that his performance IQ dictates the level of his verbal IQ. Ever since the relationship he had with his girlfriend failed, the same failure followed through to his verbal communication with his peers and family members.

Notably, the WAIS-III results for Ben should indicate a healthy full-scale intelligence quotient value. However, there will be significant statistical differences between the performance IQ and Verbal IQ based on the last few month events that occurred in Ben’s life. Assuming a full-scale IQ score of 118 and the PIQ is 125, while the VIQ is 106. The absolute difference between VIQ and PIQ will be 19, indicating a significant variation in the two factors at both 1% and 5% confidence levels (Kaufman & Lichtenberger, 2006). Furthermore, the subtest variation will likely show a higher verbal comprehension score compared to the working memory score.

The perceptual organization value less the processing speed score should also give a positive difference, supporting Ben’s current weakness in improving his sales performance. Ben’s high scores in performance IQ factor and subtests is, for this reason, supported by his historically strong academic and work records. However, the reduction in his motivation, can be explained by his inadequate effort of effectively communicating his recent psychological and drug problems to his psychiatrist.  Overall, Ben’s WAIS-III result should recommend a non-medical/ natural approach to solving Ben’s problem. This can be found in support groups where he can easily socialize with strangers without fear/anxiety of being rejected (Woodworth & Marquis, 2014).
