Essay

Explain how one or more concepts from the Montgomery article can be applicable to a healthcare organization

This article discusses the major theme of ‘Putting Leadership back into strategy.’ Montgomery (2008) highlights the importance of leadership skills as a strategic intervention in the twenty first century business world. It was emphasized that over the past twenty five (25) years an evolution of strategic practices has occurred. Contemporary models focus on marketing as a significant strategy in business profitability. Importantly, for marketing to achieve its potential, astute leadership must be enforced (Montgomery, 2008).

The marketing concept strategy is significantly applicable to modern healthcare industries. Twenty five years (25) ago healthcare was not considered an industry. It was classified as social service. Traditionally, social service organizations arenot expected to generate profits. However, changes, which have occurred in America’s health care forces the entities to be considered industries expecting to make profits and sell services at competitive prices.

Montgomery (2008) suggests that leaders ask important questions during thedecision making process that can be utilized as marketing strategies equivalent to enhancing profits. At the same time  CEOs must engage in strategic planning in attracting the best customers. These include contemplating the industry’s influence shouldit close operation, would customers be denied a significant service? The new strategy of being has compelled CEOs to think beyond the now into the future of their industries/organizations (Montgomery, 2008).

Consequently, another concept, which is applicable relates to CEO leadership.  The Montgomery (2008) article also highlights strategic planning in leadership describing the company’s way of life. In my opinion this divides people affecting the industrial climate and marketing outcomes ultimately. As such, planning for marketing or professional development ought to focus on whether employees and management alike consider the purpose and goals of the business during delivery of service ( Montgomery,2008).
